Mourning dove
Zenaida macroura
Mourning dove is a gentle ground-feeding dove that uses wires, fences, trees, and open patches for resting, nesting, and foraging.
Doves are especially associated with calm, lightly disturbed edges where seed and grit are available and nearby perches provide quick escape. In neighborhood settings they often reveal how valuable simple open ground can be when it is paired with nearby woody cover.
