Steller's jay
Cyanocitta stelleri
Steller's jay is a conspicuous crested corvid whose voice and bold movements make it one of the most noticeable birds in Pacific Northwest neighborhoods.
Jays use tall trees, feeders, mast, and sheltered nesting cover while also acting as alert, highly social observers of the whole landscape. Their presence depends on enough woody structure and neighborhood connectivity to support larger, more mobile birds.
